Website Copy Case Study - Nadia Riley
Client: Animal space design (Nadia Riley)
Industry: Animal architecture & zoo design
What I did: Full website copy rewrite + page structure
Timeline: 3 weeks
THE SITUATION
The website was beautiful. But it was built for architects, not clients.
Nadia Riley is an architect who designs habitats for animals: for zoos, wildlife sanctuaries, rewilding parks, and veterinary facilities across the world.
Her studio, Hazkoba, has delivered projects from Poland to Indonesia, from China to the Cayman Islands.
Her website was visually beautiful. Rich imagery. Organic shapes. A strong sense of who she is.
But the words? They were written for peers, not for the people who actually commission the work, zoo directors, facility managers, investors, and conservation leaders.
The copy was full of language like "integrated welfare habitats," "neuroarchitecture," and "animal agency based design systems."
Beautiful concepts, but not the words a zoo director types into Google. And not the words that help someone understand: what do I actually get if I work with you?
"My website was aesthetically beautiful, but it lacked structure and clarity. As an architect, I know how to design spaces, but I had no real understanding of how to structure a website, how clients look for information, or how to present services in a way that guides them through the process."
Nadia Riley, Architect, Animal space design
And even if someone understood the work, the website didn't guide them through it.
The homepage had no structure. It didn't walk the reader through what Nadia does, who it's for, or why it matters to them.
The about section listed three philosophical principles: Inspiration, Innovation, Connection. The services page had pricing, but the descriptions were abstract. "Holistic design," "proven results," "strategic value." Nothing told you what the actual experience of working with Nadia looks like.
The information was there. But the way it was presented made people work too hard to find it.
WHAT CHANGED
We restructured the entire website around the person reading it.
The old site talked about Nadia. Her background, her philosophy, her approach. The new site starts with the reader. What they're dealing with. What they need. Then it shows how Nadia can help, step by step.

ABOUT SECTION
Before
Meet Nadia Riley — ARCHITECT, CONSERVATIONIST, ACTIVIST
I studied History of Art and Architecture — a practical combination that helps me understand the value of history and the need for a forward-thinking approach to the spaces we interact with.
My international experience in designing animal habitats is guided by three core principles:
Inspiration: Drawing from folklore, ancestral wisdom, mythologies, symbologies, and cultural traditions to create spaces that feel alive.
Innovation: Solving challenges in animal architecture with a scientific and holistic approach that goes beyond welfare standards.
Connection: Bridging people and nature through human senses, reminding us of our connection to planet Earth.

In Nadia's words
What was the website missing?
"Before working with Maja, my website was aesthetically beautiful, but it lacked structure and clarity.
As an architect, I know how to design spaces, but I had no real understanding of how to structure a website, how clients look for information, or how to present services in a way that guides them through the process.
Maja brought exactly that missing layer."
What did the rewrite change?
"She understands the psychology behind how people explore a website, how they become familiar with a professional's work, and how services should be communicated. She created a clear structure that helps visitors understand the process, the value of the work, and how it can solve their needs."
What stood out about the work?
"She brought a strong, logical structure to the entire website. She simplified the language so the work becomes clear and understandable for anyone. She shifted the focus from 'what I did' to the benefits and solutions clients receive. Her wording and vocabulary were excellent, and only minor adjustments were needed on my side.
Her documents are very clear and structured, which makes it easy to pass them directly to a web designer for implementation."
What was it like working together?
"Beyond the technical side, Maja is also a wonderful woman to work with. She communicates with warmth, clarity, and positive energy. Throughout the process she helped me see my own work with fresh eyes and present it with confidence."
Would you recommend this to others?
"I would absolutely recommend Maja to any architect or professional who wants their work to be communicated clearly and powerfully online."
